Reflexology, what is it ? A short introduction
Nowadays, in western countries, people are more and more in demand for alternative or complementary medicine.
There is an increasing interest in the media for Reflexology and even medical profession is paying attention to this therapy.
But, there are still people who never heard about reflexology before. Or, there are some who are aware of it but they do not know exactly what it is all about.
Well, here I will give a short introduction of reflexology in order to bring my contribution to “promote” this practice.
The word “reflexology” was created in the 1930’s by the physiotherapist Eunice Ingham.
But, Dr William Fitzgerald was the pioneer who introduces reflexology in the western world. He may have been inspired by Native Americans who used a form of pressure point therapy.
Reflexology is a natural and complementary therapy which involves applying pressure to reflex points located in hand and foot. These reflex areas are linked to organs and parts of the body.
One of the main reason people visit a reflexologist is for the great benefit of relaxation. Also, reflexology can be used for relieving pain, improving circulation, boosting immune system…
Reflexology unblocks and increases energy levels.
Reflexology helps and stimulates the body’s own healing mechanisms.
Finally, this therapy balances the body structure at all levels.
